Privacy Policy — Thrift Snap

This document reflects the data flows and third-party services actually integrated in Thrift Snap as of this date. If services change, this document must be updated before release.

Who we are

Thrift Snap ("we", "the app") is an AI shopping companion that helps you identify second-hand clothing and accessories and estimate their resale value.

What we collect and why

Account identity. When you first open the app we create an anonymous account so your scans and purchases belong to you. If you choose to sign in with Google or Apple, we associate that identity with the same account so you can recover your data on another device. We store your account identifier and, if you sign in, your email address and profile display name.

Scan photos. When you scan an item, the photo is sent to our servers to identify the item and estimate its value. Photos are downscaled and stripped of location metadata on your device before upload. They are stored in access-controlled cloud storage and are readable only by your account. Retention is limited and photos are deletable by you.

Item and resale data. The items you scan, the collections you create, purchase costs you enter, and sale outcomes you record are stored so the app can show your history and inventory across devices.

Location. If you choose to use the nearby thrift-store map and grant permission, the app uses your precise location while the app is in use to center the map and find nearby stores. It does not request background location, store your location in your Thrift Snap account, or send it to analytics. On iOS, the nearby search is serviced by Apple Maps. On Android, coordinates are sent to Geoapify only to return nearby place results.

Usage analytics. We collect app usage events (screens viewed, features used, purchase funnel steps) to understand and improve the product. We do not send your scan photos, generated listing text, purchase prices, or other personal content to analytics.

Crash diagnostics. We collect crash reports to fix defects.

Third-party services

Thrift Snap uses these services, each governed by its own privacy policy:

  • Google Firebase — anonymous, Google, and Apple sign-in; analytics; crash reporting; remote configuration; app-integrity verification.
  • RevenueCat — subscription management and purchase validation.
  • Cloudflare — our backend hosting and storage (databases, image storage, configuration).
  • OpenAI — item identification from your scan photo. The photo and any label text you scan are sent to OpenAI through our servers for this purpose. We do not use your content to train models.
  • eBay — we query eBay's marketplace data to price items. We do not send your personal information to eBay.
  • Apple Maps / Geoapify — nearby thrift-store search. Location is used only when you request nearby results and grant location permission; it is not retained in your Thrift Snap account.
  • Apple App Store / Google Play — payment processing for subscriptions.

AI and estimates

Item identification and value estimates are produced by automated systems and are estimates, not guarantees. Pricing for eBay is based on real marketplace listings; pricing shown for Poshmark, Depop, and Mercari is an AI estimate and is labelled as such in the app.

Your choices

  • Analytics opt-out. You can disable analytics and crash collection in Settings.
  • Delete your data. You can delete your account and all associated data from Settings → Delete account. This removes your scans, collections, and stored photos from our servers and cannot be undone.
  • Sign-in is optional. The app works with an anonymous account; signing in only adds cross-device recovery.

Children

Thrift Snap is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent age in your region) and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Data location and retention

Data is processed by the service providers listed above for the stated purposes. Account-linked data stored by Thrift Snap is retained while your account is active and deleted on account deletion, subject to limited backup retention. Nearby-search coordinates are not retained in your Thrift Snap account.

Tracking

Thrift Snap does not track you across other companies' apps and websites and does not request App Tracking Transparency permission.
